Who is MrRobSmiley?

MrRobSmiley is a freelance Creative Director, specializing in both Copywriting and Art Direction, with an unusual strength in strategic thinking. 

Experienced in all medias, Rob has successfully delivered creative work for every type of assignment, from a ½ billion impression digital sports marketing campaigns, to iconic Superbowl commercials, to helping design the prototype for the most successful retail store in history.  

Prior to his current consultancy, MrRobSmiley was Executive Creative Director at RGA, in the San Francisco office, where he spearheaded all creative work on accounts such as Microsoft, JCPenney, and most recently Samsung, where he led their 500,000,000 view World Cup Futbol effort, as well as played a pivotal role in winning Samsung's global digital agency of record assignment. 

Prior to RGA, MrRobSmiley was Global Creative Director at TBWA/Chiat/Day New York for 4 years, where he lead the agency’s global efforts on Absolut Vodka. Overseeing all work in over 15 offices, both digital and traditional, Smiley re-launched this iconic vodka brand as well as its premium counterpart, Level.

Before New York, MrRobSmiley was Creative Director and founding partner in San Francisco at TBWA/Chiat/Day for 4 years. There he helped create award winning and brand building work for clients such as Pets.com, The Game Show Network, OnHealth, Levi’s, and Rock the Vote.

Over the course of his career, Smiley has worked several times at Apple, helping to re-launch the brand with Steve Jobs, helping to design the very first Apple Store, developing new strategies for their Education group, as well as learning how to assemble a computer from the ground up. He has also spent 4 years at FCB San Francisco as a senior Art Director.

MrRobSmiley graduated from Princeton University with a degree in architecture, and before starting his career in marketing, earned a living as an architect, illustrator, and an elevator operator. He has also lived in Devon, England where he learned how to make guitars.
